painRegulation, Licensing and Policy2025-12-21source

As a First Responder, there really is no room for trauma, the jobs demands resilience at any cost. You are expected to keep it together and not show your weakness, at any cost. The truth is the body remembers what the mind tires to forget, forced silence becomes dangerous. In this solo episode, I share my story as a former Paramedic, how one call became the tipping point that sent me into a spiral of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I talk openly about the experienced isolation, in the face of ridicule, isolation and the lack of real support when you’re struggling to put your uniform on. This isn’t a clinical conversation. It’s a human one. I also share what actually helped me heal when traditional paths fail. My experience with a single dose of Psilocybin that became the turning point, allowing me to reclaim my life, my nervous system, and my sense of self. If you’re a first responder, a veteran, or someone quietly carrying trauma while trying to be “OK,” this episode is for you. You’re not weak. You’re not broken. And you’re not alone. Many of us, now more than ever, are struggling with some form of mental health challenge. We’re trying to keep up with lives that feel relentless, juggling family, careers, relationships, and financial pressure, with little space to slow down or simply breathe. And what reflects back from that place is often depression, anxiety, and a quiet loss of joy. For some, it goes even deeper. There’s a growing number of people living on the edge of more severe mental health challenges, feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and at times, like they’re losing their grip on reality. But there is hope. We are entering a time where new solutions are revolutionizing the way we approach mental health. Psychedelics are re-emerging as a powerful tool, being studied across respected institutions around the world, with results that are not only compelling, but deeply promising for long-term healing. In this solo episode, I share my personal experience with psilocybin therapy and how a single journey became a turning point in my life. It shifted the way I saw myself, my pain, and my path forward in a way that years of searching never quite reached. Since that day, I’ve devoted my life to supporting others who are struggling with their mental health, helping them step into safe, intentional, and supported experiences that can open the door to real internal transformation. Because this isn’t just a “trip.” It’s a reconnection. An awakening. A return to a life that actually feels worth living.

A call yesterday with Nadine Wohlers who interviewed me for her masters project on regenerative businesses, she at Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP), UCL. Here is the story, question at the end for your thoughts and feedback. During Christmas Day at Playa Viva a few years ago, I was walking out the trail that leads to and from Playa Viva. This trail was strewn with candy wrappers and discarded plastic candy containers. I was disgusted. Not just by the fact that the local kids who joined us for Christmas Eve celebrations — including a piñata full of candy — didn't know better than to throw their trash in the garbage. I was aghast at the idea that Playa Viva created this garbage in the first place. Piñatas are a wonderful local tradition. But what had we done? Lucky for us we had a quintessential guest at Playa Viva, Kat, who ran her own plastic-free shampoo company. Perfect timing. We called a meeting with every department head. We asked Kat to share her story of how hard she works to keep plastics out of every part of her supply chain, product, transportation, etc., and she shared her story with the team. Then we went around the table and asked each department head to talk about where they use plastic in their day-to-day operations. Turns out that plastic was hiding in plain sight. Every time we picked up shrimp from the fishmonger or meat from the butcher, it came wrapped in plastic bags. Each department identified the areas where they used more plastic and where they could eliminate or significantly reduce it, especially single-use items. The team came up with the fix themselves: we now bring our own Tupperware to the butcher and fishmonger. We not only do a piñata for Christmas Eve but also for New Year's. I was surprised to see the New Year's piñata explode with old-school candy — sugarcane, peanuts, fruit — this time, no plastic wrapping. Our staff was ready for the cultural shock from the new generation. On cue, Yara (in charge of these events) offered the kids individual bags of candy — real candy, but not wrapped in plastic. Problem solved, for the kids and for Playa Viva. What I loved most was the ingenuity and thoughtfulness of our team. This is what I mean when I say regeneration isn't a checkbox, it's a practice. Playa Viva is not perfect. While we are 100% off-grid solar for electricity, we still cook with propane gas. Our next major purchase will be an electric industrial stove and ovens. Until then, we will continue to strive for excellence and know that we are not perfect, but with the help of our team and asking the right questions and engaging the knowledge of our guests (and broader community) we will get closer and closer to being truly regenerative. Question for other founders and operators here: how do you build a culture where your own staff feels safe pointing out what isn't working, rather than management having to find it first?

painSustainability, Nature and Environment2026-07-15source

From a financial standpoint, we started this business in 2006 in the last big economic boom, which crashed in 2008 with a global economic crisis. It hit travel and tourism, especially in Mexico, which was hit by H1N1 and tourism was down by 50%. I would say timing wasn't great for us, but we really should have spent more resources investing in things like social impact, like our farm and food program.

painFinancing, Investment and Revenuesource

Is regenerative philanthropy the evolution of giving? I've been wrestling with a question recently, and I'm genuinely curious what this community thinks. Through my limited lens, I've watched philanthropy evolve over the past few decades. Collective impact inspired me in that it worked to coordinate across sectors. Systems change philanthropy showed how to address root causes, not just symptoms. Impact investing proved we could deploy capital for both returns and positive outcomes. And yet. I keep seeing the same pattern repeat: philanthropy (and philanthropists) with good intentions but giving that isn’t coordinated to create deep systemic change. The metrics look good. The theory of change is solid. But did we actually transform anything? Over the decades, I’ve evolved as a philanthropist…so what’s next? I used to believe conservation was about protecting nature FROM people. Build the fence. Hire the guards. Keep humans out. That's Act I thinking — and it doesn't work. Why? If you don’t solve the people problems that cause the pressure on natural resources, you will never solve the nature problems. Then I evolved into what I'd call “dualist thinking”: nature AND people can both win if we're clever enough with our incentives and structures. Create the right programs, align the stakeholders, deploy the capital efficiently. See the people as integral to solving the nature problems. Because what I've learned over 17 years working in regenerative development is that real transformation happens when we focus on building trust between all stakeholders, listen deeply to what the community and the ecosystem wants and form partnerships to address those concerns and then learn from our mistakes and successes with no blame, just evolving together and building trust. "What if the goal of philanthropy isn't to solve problems, but to build the conditions under which communities can solve their own?" How do we get philanthropists and their awardees to work together, creating shared best practices? What do you think? Is regenerative philanthropy the next frontier we need — or just the latest in a long line of philanthropic frameworks that promise transformation but deliver incrementalism? Drop your thoughts below. Push back on me. Tell me I'm wrong. Or share examples of where you've seen this work (or fail). #regenerative #regenerativetravel #regenerativephilanthropy #philanthropy #collectiveimpact #giving

Is one of your goals for your business in 2023 to make it more impactful and purpose driven? If so, I want to remind you of this. ⬇️ Expanding your business, impact, network, and wealth is possible without running yourself into the ground. I wish I would have known that when I started in business in my early 20s – it quite literally would have saved me millions of dollars and copious amounts of stress 😅 However, if you're in that place in your life where running your business is stressful, you feel lost, or your growth has stalled – I have something for you. ⭐️ G-FORCE Entrepreneurs is a 12-week coaching program that will save you years of struggle and thousands of dollars as you build a business that aligns with the purpose of your life. I created this program based off of everything that I now know having started and scaled 5 successful companies. ⭐️ Throughout the 12 weeks a group of 28 entrepreneurs, plus myself, will meet weekly via Zoom to go over how to align our business with our life and then create the business, brand, and impact plan that will allow that business to truly be profitable and worth your time. I'll be giving you my actual business worksheets, tools, and knowledge that I have paid tens of thousands of dollars to learn. Following the 12 week program, this network of people will meet for a 5-day all-inclusive networking retreat on my private island, The Aerial BVI in April 2023 🏝️ I had only planned to run this program once last year, but it was so amazingly impactful I've decided to open it up again. 14 of the 28 spots are already claimed so if you're interested, now's your chance. ➡️ If you’re ready to go all in and invest in yourself and your business in 2023, this program is for you. Send me a message to chat more about this 💬 #entrepreneurs #network #networkinggroup #entrepreneurship #business #businessowner

A clinical observation that I find more important than most longevity headlines: hormonal architecture is one of the most under-managed areas of medicine for adults over 40, and it is one of the most consequential. I see this every week in practice. Patients in their forties, fifties and sixties presenting with symptoms — fatigue, sleep disruption, cognitive slowing, loss of muscle mass, mood change, libido decline, recovery time after exertion — that they have been told are normal features of aging. Frequently they are not. They are reflections of a hormonal system that has shifted away from its optimal physiological range, and which can, with appropriate clinical judgement, be returned much closer to it. What an honest clinical position on hormonal optimisation looks like: → Diagnostics first. No protocol decision without a comprehensive baseline. Free and total testosterone, oestradiol, progesterone, DHEA, cortisol architecture, thyroid panel, IGF-1, SHBG, and a range of metabolic and inflammatory co-markers. Treating to symptom without proper baseline data is, in my view, indefensible. → The menopause transition is materially more consequential than mainstream medicine has historically treated it. The cardiovascular, cognitive and skeletal implications of estrogen and progesterone signalling extend well beyond the reproductive years. The clinical reckoning around menopausal hormone therapy is overdue, and is finally arriving. → Male hormonal decline deserves the same diagnostic seriousness. Testosterone optimisation in symptomatic men with documented deficiency is well-evidenced and clinically defensible. Wholesale supplementation in asymptomatic men with normal-range readings is something different, and the field needs to be honest about that distinction. → Hormonal optimisation is not a standalone intervention. It sits inside a wider protocol that includes metabolic health, sleep architecture, training stimulus, stress modulation and nutrition. Treated in isolation it is consistently disappointing. Treated as part of the wider physiology, it is consistently effective. Hormonal medicine, properly practised, is one of the most clinically rewarding domains. It also requires more clinical judgement than any other area I would name. The evidence base is real, but it is not formulaic. It will be a substantial conversation at Next Generation Medicine - Future of Longevity #hormones #health #aeonclinic #NGM2026 #Dubai

Conventional corporate wellness has been measuring the wrong things for two decades. Step counts. Annual screenings. Gym subsidies. Activity metrics that tell you almost nothing of clinical substance about a workforce's actual healthspan trajectory. The premise of conventional corporate wellness is largely reactive — detect early, manage chronic conditions, attempt to reduce absenteeism. These are legitimate aims. They are also, in my view, manifestly insufficient for the population most organisations are now trying to retain at the top of their performance curve. Longevity medicine asks a substantially different question: not how decline is managed, but how the period of optimal cognitive, metabolic, and physical function is extended. For senior leadership, the distinction matters considerably. Biological and chronological age are not synonymous. A 52-year-old can present with the metabolic and inflammatory profile of a 38-year-old, or a 67-year-old. The interventions & modifications that meaningfully shift that trajectory exist, are evidence-based, and are increasingly accessible. At The AEON Clinic, we have built a corporate longevity programme designed against this premise. Not wellness as a benefit. Wellness as performance infrastructure with measurable trajectory data. At Next Generation Medicine - Future of Longevity 2026 we are bringing senior corporate health leaders, People Directors and C-suite decision-makers into the conversation alongside the clinical faculty. The organisations that engage seriously with this now will be operating from a different baseline in five years. Does your organisation's wellness programme measure biological age or healthspan trajectory in any structured way? I would be interested to hear what you are doing. #CorporateWellness #ExecutiveHealth #LongevityMedicine #HRLeadership #BiologicalAge #AEONclinic

It wasn’t about me, or BioAro Inc. ecosystem, it was about your family. We wanted to have a stage where everyone comes together, and share what they do and how they are advancing field of Precision Medicine. You assume that your doctors are making the best call, but they don’t even have data they need and understanding of Genomics in your health’s context. I asked to become a student at the Precision Health and Longevity Summit in Calgary by DIL Walk Foundation and didn’t give any keynotes. I wanted to learn from the leaders, patients and politicians, and see if we could bring everyone together for one agenda: How to implement Precision Health today? We have the tools, but we lack implementation. I also learnt that an Obs/Gyn spend <4 hours in their medical school training where they are taught about Menopause, and women spend 1/3 of their lifespan in this stage. I also learnt that 1 in 4 are eligible for Cancer screening using precision health, but its not implemented at many levels. I also learnt that 4th most common cause of death in USA (Likely Canada too) is Adverse Reactions to medicines and we have solutions in #PharmacoGenomics, rarely used. Its not technology anymore, its about NOT using it for betterment of our societies. Thank you Raman Kapoor for creating a space, where everyone could come together, speak freely, share ideas and perhaps work together. You have created a movement, and helping transform healthcare in Canada. Thank you to all volunteers who spent countless hours.
