Jobs to be done

job 1When Angama Mara carries a decade of brand equity while Angama Amboseli still has thin market presence, I want to build demand generation for Amboseli to match what Mara already enjoys, so that the newer lodge is not left running below the group's established standard.
job 2When rooms priced above $2,000 a night still carry OTA commission drag, I want to shift more of that demand to direct channels, so that less of every premium booking's value leaks to third-party platforms.
job 3When I am stepping back from Angama and the brand starts running on institutional strength rather than my day-to-day presence, I want Angama to still be recognized as carrying the founding vision Steve and I built, so that the transition to new leadership does not erase what it was built to stand for.
job 4When our people first promise is not consistently matched by service delivery, I want to close that consistency gap across the properties, so that the brand promise guests are sold matches what they actually experience.
job 5When a flagship content asset like the photo competition sits siloed on a separate domain, I want it integrated into the main brand's distribution, so that the content built to attract guests actually reaches and converts them.
jtbd coverage noteNo register-quote evidence exists for Nicky Fitzgerald; four functional jobs and one social job rest on the sales-brief pain section, with the social job (founder-brand versus institutional-brand tension) corroborated by dossier facts about her phased retirement and continuing board role. No verbatim founder-voice content was available to ground an emotional job, so that type is omitted.

A heartfelt shoutout of gratitude to Neville Brauer and Marco Van Embden who have supported Angama from day Day Zero. You know you’ve aced it when a travel advisor coming to stay on a fam describes luxury at Angama Mara as an early morning hug, a warm smile, the guide’s laughter and the chef’s joy on receiving compliments. And best of all each team member referred by name. That fills my heart ❤️💙❤️

Luxury Philosophy and Authenticity2026-04-30source

Can ‘luxury’ be fun? Have we become too serious in delighting our guests? Do higher rates mean we as hoteliers need to be staight faced focussing more on delivering perfect service than belly laughs? My guess is our guests would choose the latter any day. At Angama Amboseli we encourage our guests to wear their pyjamas whilst out on safari … https://lnkd.in/dHtRskT6

LinkedIn People are My People I devour posts from Scott Eddy Thomas Brown Oliver Corrin Bashar Wali and more. The conversations swirl around ‘what IS luxury?’ Is luxury perhaps just simplicity? Freshly chucked crab, a loaf right out of the oven, more mayo than is good for you and a green salad? Oh, and rosé - lots. My daughter’s face says it all.

There is a story in every bead … At Angama Mara in Maasailand beads matter. Not only are they tools for self-expression and identity but they are carriers of cultural stories and traditions. Our guests spend many happy hours in the lodge’s Beading Studio sharing stories with the Maasai women who craft these beautiful items. It’s cultural tourism in its truest form: tell me your story and I will tell you mine.

When a photobomb backfires 🤣 After jumping into a school outing photo op at the Nairobi Museum I introduced myself as a South African. Of course I asked them who is our most famous citizen. One bright youngster shot up his hand and answered ….. Elon Musk. That totally took the wind out of my sails. Times they are a-changing

I felt sick to my stomach reading this article on how the ultra-rich travel. Many of Angama’s guests fall into this bracket and they are an absolute delight to look after. They engage with the staff, reconnect with the real world and make many meaning differences just by coming to stay. Let’s celebrate all that is good in the world.

When we opened Angama Amboseli 2 years ago on the beautiful Kimana Sanctuary there wasn’t a predator to be seen. Yesterday evening I spent time with Kimana’s lion pride that now numbers 7 and this morning I had the best cheetah viewing of my life with this mama and her 2 cubs. Our guests are over the moon. So am I. Thank you Big Life Foundation for all that you do in this small corner of Kenya ❤️

I have had the great honour of working at Angama alongside Collins Randiga and Ibrahim Hussein for the past 10 years. Collo started as head chef of Angama Mara, opened Angama Amboseli and now is GM back in the Mara. Ibra started as a butler in the Mara and today is GM at our lovely Amboseli lodge. They lead their teams with joy and purpose and our guests couldn't be more delighted. Please read their stories below https://lnkd.in/dmg9xmcu https://lnkd.in/dJ5mfBdw

I stumbled across this photograph of our first hotel and it brought a huge smile to my face. On 1 May 1981 Steve and I moved to the little fishing village of Arniston near the southernmost tip of Africa to rebuild the hotel. What a dump it was, too. But we were totally clueless and enthusiastic in equal measure and plunged right in. We opened a year later and the rate per person DBB was …. wait for it … $3.65 (I had to check that conversion twice 🤣). How grateful I am that this crazy adventure led us to Angama 45 years later.
