Many women are choosing progestagen-only hormonal contraceptive based on a supposed increased cancer risk associated with the combined pill.   However, a recent PLoS Medicine paper debunked the myth: breast cancer risk among progestagen-only contraceptive and combined pill users is similar, and no difference emerged between different forms of progestagen-only contraceptives (oral, to be injected, implant or intrauterine device).   This is not an invitation to quit hormonal contraceptives, but a call for taking advantage from scientific tools enabling individual cancer risk.   All of the women assuming this kind of contraceptives – which also present with several health benefits, including some cancer risk reduction – can control the principal cancer promoting factors (genome instability, chronic inflammation, gut dysbiosis, and immune imbalance) thanks to the innovative and unique HELIXAFE approach. #breastcancer #hormonalcontraceptives #cancerdriverinterception #monitoringprogram #genomeinstability #chronicinflammation #intestinaldysbiosis #immuneimbalance

Gut dysbiosis can induce or insist on genome instability, the first among cancer-promoting factors.   We already knew that some gut bacteria can produce genotoxic molecules.   A new study adds evidence of the potential genotoxic action of gut microbiota, unveiling that Morganella morganii-derived indolimines damage intestinal cells' DNA and increase colonic cancer burden.   Fortunately, nowadays we can both analyze gut microbiome composition and correct it to reduce our colonic cancer risk.

Cancer has its roots in our genes, and lifelong exposure to cancer risk factors promotes genome alterations which make cells grow abnormally, invade tissues and organs, and spread to other body parts. Cancer prodromal stage is the period, lasting several years, during which cells progressively accumulate mutations in clinically healthy individuals showing no cancer symptoms; genome instability is indicative of this stage. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   #Earlydetection can save many women's life; that is why several campaign are addressed to the promotion of screening aimed at the diagnosis of cancers that are in the earlier stages of their development – thus more easily treatable.   However, #primaryprevention is even more important than early detection.   In fact, primary prevention allows for reducing cancer development risk or intercepting cancer driver factors before cancer development.   Among the valuable approaches, #genomeinstability testing is an innovative tool that allows for preventing #cancer by the #analysis of the accumulation of mutations suggesting an increased risk of #cancerdevelopment.   It enables every woman, with or without a familial predisposition to #breastcancer, to discover if their DNA is accumulating such mutations, and to eventually adopt more pressing prevention behaviors or to enter prevention screening for early #breastcancer detection.
